The Great Books Summer Program is an experience like no other in American education. For over nineteen years, GBSP has gathered together middle and high school students from across the globe to investigate life’s big questions as they read, discuss, and debate great works of literature.
Students experience college-level seminars, engage in lively discussion, and enjoy summer fun with other literary-minded students on the campuses of Amherst, Northwestern, Stanford, Oxford, Edinburgh, and Beijing.
Great Books gives students the opportunity to grow academically and socially as they prepare for high school or college. Guided by distinguished faculty from world-class universities and schools, students participate in Shared Inquiry – teaching by asking questions – to engage in universal debates about life’s enduring questions through the lens of classic literary texts. Students gain confidence in close reading and critical thinking skills, giving power to their ideas as they find their own voice in the classroom.
With dedicated Writer’s Workshop weeks for budding young authors and our new Tall Ship Adventure: Tales of the Sea experiential program, Great Books provides a wide variety of summer opportunities for the avid young reader, debater, or writer in your life!
